Randal L. Brown, MD

Brown_Randal.jpgDr. Randal Brown received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center and completed a fellowship in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1999.

He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1999.

Donald J. Martin, MD

Dr. Donald J. Martin is a Kansas City native.  He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree from Creighton University. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Martin achieved the rank of Major and served four years overseas in the Medical Corps of the United States Air Force. He completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2016.

 

James A. Mavec, MD

Mavec_James.jpgDr. James Mavec received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University in 1985. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas Department of Medicine and his fellowship at the University of Kansas Division of Gastroenterology in 1994.

He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1994.

Jon Christopher Nichols, MD

nichols.jpgDr. Jon Christopher Nichols received his undergraduate degree from Marymount College in 1983. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1987. He was a Resident in the Department of Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was Chief Resident at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and then a Fellow at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology in Rochester, Minnesota.

He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2001.

Dushyant Singh, MD, FACP

singh.jpgDr Singh completed his training, including Chief of House Staff, from UMKC School of Medicine in 2013 and decided to stay in greater Kansas City area to practice gastroenterology. He enjoys taking care of all patients with gastroenterology issues, particularly acid reflux, nutrition, colorectal cancer screening and inflammatory bowel disease.

 Dr. Singh looks forward to the opportunity to work closely with his patients and develop a long-term trusting relationship. He likes to spend time with them and listen to their problems. He values the relationship between a doctor and patient, which he thinks is one of a kind. His overall goal is to treat his patient with respect and empathy and provide high-quality, cost effective medical care.

In his free time, he loves to spend time with his family and friends. He also greatly enjoys travelling, playing golf, strength and training workouts along with growing through yoga and meditation.

John B. Sturgeon, MD

sturgeon.jpgDr. John B. Sturgeon received his undergraduate degree from University of Kansas in 1985. He received his medical degree from the University Of Kansas School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine and completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Kansas, Division of Gastroenterology in 1994. He is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology.

He joined the Sunflower Medical Group in 1994 where he practiced gastroenterology until 2000. He then practiced as a solo practitioner until he joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2011.

Dr. Sturgeon enjoys taking care of patients 18 years old and older, with the goal of providing quality care in a compassionate manner. He believes in providing both diagnostic and treatment options so patients can choose what is best for them.

In his personal life, Dr. Sturgeon is very active in his church, Village Presbyterian Church. He has served on the pastor search committee and as a deacon.

 

John A. Thesing, MD

Thesing_John.jpgDr. John Thesing received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Miami and then completed his internship at The Ohio State University Hospital, where he also completed his residency. He was a Fellow in Gastroenterology at The Ohio State University Hospital from 1985-1987.

He served as Medical Staff Physician at the Veterans Administration in Columbus, Ohio before joining Gastrointestinal Associates in 1990.

 

Jeffrey L. Young, MD

Young_Jeffrey.jpgDr. Jeffrey Young received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1989. He then completed a third-year residency in internal medicine at Evanston Hospital at Northern University in 1992. He served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at Evanston Hospital. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1995.

He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1995.

 

Elizabeth Ahlenstorf, FNC, BC

Ahlenstorf_E.jpgElizabeth (Betsy) Ahlenstorf holds degrees in Kinesiology from Kansas State University ,a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Miami and a Master of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Betsy received her Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2014 where she began practicing at Hays Family Medicine.   Betsy is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as well as Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.  Betsy joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2015. 

Kelci Gillenwater, APRN

Gillenwater_Kelci.jpgKelci Gillenwater holds degrees from Baker University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges Award.  She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program.  Kelci has experience as an Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse as well as Surgery Center Charge Nurse.  Kelci has also cared for patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Pain Medicine , Acute Care and Primary Care.  Kelci  joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2015.

 

Jessica Taylor, PA

Taylor_Jesse.jpgJessica Taylor, PA received her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Saint Louis University in 2006. She received her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant in 2009 from Arcadia University.

She joined Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants in 2009 and joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2011.




Amy Weber, APRN

Weber_Amy.jpgAmy G Weber is a Cum Laude Graduate of the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing and holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing for Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioners.  She holds both a Kansas and Missouri APRN license and has several affiliations in her 25+ years of practice.  She has served as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, as a Nurse Clinician at Emory University in their Cystic Fibrosis Center, as well as the University of Kansas Physician Group Department of Neurology in the Alzheimer Disease Center Memory Care Clinic.  Amy is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurse Association and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  Amy joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2015 and has been on staff at Saint Joseph Health Center assisting the physicians of Gastrointestinal Associates, LLC in the care of patients who are admitted to the hospital.
