James Mavec, MD
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved physician, Dr. James A. Mavec who unexpectedly passed away on July 12, 2024. Dr. Mavec was an exceptional physician and family man who dedicated his life to healing and serving others.
Our physician partners and staff will continue to honor him by providing the best possible care to his patients. We will miss his leadership, his clinical knowledge, and his constant support to our practice.
Dr. Mavec will remain in our hearts forever.
Jeffrey L. Young, MD
Dr. Jeffrey Young received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1989. He then completed a third-year residency in internal medicine at Evanston Hospital at Northern University in 1992. He served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at Evanston Hospital. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1995.
He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1995.
Jon Christopher Nichols, MD
Dr. Jon Christopher Nichols received his undergraduate degree from Marymount College in 1983. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1987. He was a Resident in the Department of Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was Chief Resident at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and then a Fellow at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology in Rochester, Minnesota.
He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2001.
Christian C. McElhinney, MD
Dr. Christian McElhinney received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1995. He completed a year of general surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine followed by a year as a Research Resident at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Dickson-Diveley Midwest Orthopaedic Clinic. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2000 and his gastroenterology fellowship in 2003.
He has been with Gastrointestinal Associates since 2003.
Donald J. Martin, MD
Dr. Donald J. Martin is a Kansas City native. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree from Creighton University. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Martin achieved the rank of Major and served four years overseas in the Medical Corps of the United States Air Force. He completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2016.
Scott Robert Holmes, DO
Dr. Holmes received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. He received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience. His Internal Medicine Residency and his Geriatric and Gastroenterology Fellowships were completed at Saint Louis University and Saint Louis University Medical Center.
Dr. Holmes is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
James E. Allen, MD
Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship. Dr. Allen has published extensively in Barrett's esophagus and advanced endoscopic imaging modalities. He enjoys helping patients overcome GI related illness and preventing GI cancers through timely screening.

Matthew B. Moore, MD
Dr. Matthew Moore received his undergraduate degree from theMoore, Cropped University of Kansas. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2017. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He then completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and Alpha Omega Alpha. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2023.
Kelci Gillenwater, APRN
Kelci Gillenwater holds degrees from Baker University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges Award. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Kelci has experience as an Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse as well as Surgery Center Charge Nurse. Kelci has also cared for patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Pain Medicine , Acute Care and Primary Care. Kelci joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2015.
Jessica Taylor, PA
Jessica Taylor, PA received her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Saint Louis University in 2006. She received her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant in 2009 from Arcadia University.
She joined Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants in 2009 and joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2011.
